In Construction!LogProbeÔ

The LogProbe

In December 1999 Applied Microwaves & Wireless published an article I wrote about LogProbeÔ. You can go to http://www.amwireless.com  , go to their Archive Page, go to 1999 and December. There you can download the article as a PDF file.

In brief: LogProbeÔ is a logarithmic detector with differential input. It has a 'Dynamic Range' of 92 dB. That is 1:10(92/20) or 1:39,811 in input voltage. In this case for inputs from 55µV to 2.2V. The input dynamic range for power is thus over 1.58 million to one. The DC output scale factor is 1V / 10 dB input level change.

The frequency range is practically flat to at least 600 MHz and the LogProbeÔ is useful to some 1.3 GHz.

LogProbeÔ operates on 5V (with reduced output range) to 32V, consumes 25 mA. A 9V battery is sufficient for all but the top 10 dB of the dynamic range. 12V is perfectly fine. A simple "wallplug adaptor" is also fine.

LogProbeÔ has of course its own Web pages too. Surprise, surprise, at http://www.logprobe.com Some of the pages for various, specialized functions, are not up yet. The products are working, but are as of yet in prototype only. I have found that it takes a lot of time and money to get them out of there! At least the LogProbeÔ is available for delivery. Many kinds of BNC adapters will soon follow. With attenuators, loaded (50W , 75W and 93W ) and not loaded, with and without wideband amplifiers built-in. Matched inputs (to 50W , 75W and 93W ) and high impedance, Charge Amplifiers (for Piezo Electric Transducers), Differential Amplifiers… A very nice battery box is already designed and will be next thereafter.
